Chelsea are weighing up a possible offer for Villarreal defender Pau Torres next summer, according to 90min.com‘s Graeme Bailey.

The journalist claims that the Blues have received “glowing” reports from club scouts, as they consider potential targets to strengthen their backline.

Torres is left-footed and would be a perfect fit for the left-sided centre-back position, which is currently filled by Antonio Rudiger.

The German international’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season and there has been no sign of a breakthrough in negotiations that would see him extend his stay with the European champions.

Torres has been heavily linked with both Manchester United and Real Madrid over the past year, and it has been reported that the 24-year-old has a €65m (£56m) release clause, which would make him an attractive target.

At this stage, the Spaniard is likely only seen as a standby option if Rudiger does decide to leave Chelsea, so we shall see how things develop in the coming months.
