Chelsea are interested in signing Werder Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka this summer, according to Deichstube.de.
The German website claims the 29-year-old is being lined up as a replacement for Willy Caballero, who has left Stamford Bridge on a free transfer.
Pavlenka has one year remaining on his contract at Bremen, and he is likely to be available relatively cheaply. The Czech international was recently linked in the German media with a €3m (£2.6m) move to Burnley so the Blues won’t have to break the bank to secure his signature.
Deichstube have confirmed that Chelsea’s interest in Pavlenka has been at the instigation of his fellow countryman Petr Cech, whose “words carry great weight” in the goalkeeping department.
Considering his last recommendation was Edouard Mendy, it seems very likely that manager Thomas Tuchel and the London club’s recruitment team will trust his judgement once again as they seek a new number two.
