Real Madrid are weighing up a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, according to reports in the Spanish media.

The Frenchman is one of Chelsea’s main transfer targets but they have been unable to agree a deal for the centre-back, with Sevilla holding out for a fee in the region of €60m (£51m).

Thomas Tuchel‘s side may now have an extra complication to consider if Real do firm up their interest in Kounde. The La Liga club are reportedly looking at potential replacements for Raphael Varane, who looks poised to join Manchester United in the next few days.

Kounde, along with Villarreal’s Pau Torres, are both said to be on Real’s shortlist of options, but they are not looking to make their move straight away. Their finances mean they cannot afford to be too wasteful with their spending, particularly as they are hoping to sign PSG’s Kylian Mbappe this summer.

That delay should give Chelsea the chance to snap up Kounde if they can find a compromise with Sevilla. A part-exchange deal, including Kurt Zouma, has been proposed but it’s likely that the Blues’ next offer will be cash only.
