Chelsea will go into this weekend’s season opener against Crystal Palace on a high after lifting the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will face an Eagles team who have entered a new era under head coach Patrick Vieira, with the club having also undergone a sizeable overhaul in the playing department.
In terms of team news, the home side will be without Hakim Ziyech who injured his shoulder during the victory over Villarreal. The Moroccan is not expected to be back anytime soon.
The likes of Thiago Silva, Jorginho, Ben Chilwell, Reece James and Mason Mount have only recently returned to training after their exploits at Euro 2020 and the Copa America so it’s unlikely that all will be fit to start on Saturday.
Palace will be without new signing Michael Olise due to a back problem, while Eberechi Eze and Nathan Ferguson are long-term absentees after sustaining Achilles tendon injuries.
The bookies have Chelsea as the strong favourites with Betfred pricing them at 2/7 for the win. A draw is 19/4 with BetVictor while a victory for Palace is 13/1 at Betfair.
Predicted Score – 2-0 to Chelsea
