The arrival of Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea could well help Timo Werner find his feet at the Blues, according to Darren Bent.

The former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker claims that Werner was much more effective when he played as part of a two-man strikeforce at his previous club RB Leipzig, rather than as the sole focal point of the attack:

“I don’t think Timo Werner ever wanted to be that out-and-out number nine. I think he liked playing better with a big man [at RB Leipzig]. Now you’ve got someone like Lukaku there I think we may see the best of Timo Werner.”

Bent certainly knows his stuff. During his last year with Leipzig, Werner was partnered with either Yussuf Poulsen or Patrick Schick (both known target men) and it proved to be a lethal combination.

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann preferred to use a 4-4-2 formation and it led to Werner scoring 34 goals and contributing 13 assists before he made the switch to Stamford Bridge.

Whether Tuchel would switch his 3-4-3 system at Chelsea to 3-5-2 in order to get the best out of both Lukaku and Werner, though, we shall have to wait and see.
