Chelsea are unlikely to make a €30m (£25m) move for Stuttgart wingback Borna Sosa before the transfer window closes on Monday, according to Eurosport‘s Dean Jones.

The journalist believes that, if the Blues did have that kind of money to spend, they would have fought harder to see off Aston Villa in the race to sign Everton’s Lucas Digne instead:

“From what I’ve heard, that is not something that Chelsea are looking to invest in right now. They obviously do want a new full-back to come in, but not at £25m. I think if that was the case, they probably would have been more serious about Lucas Digne and signing him.”

It should be pointed out that the original reports linking Chelsea with Sosa were related to a summer transfer anyway but, even so, Jones’s point about not spending big on a fullback this month still stands.

The Blues were reportedly only willing to sign Digne on an initial loan deal, and their keenness to recall Emerson from his loan spell at Lyon suggests no significant bids will be made before Monday’s deadline.

Reliable sources have claimed that Barcelona’s Sergino Dest is a genuine target so there is still a small chance that Chelsea will dip into their pockets for a new signing in the coming days.
