Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez has named Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy as the best goalkeeper in the world on current form.
Martinez, who should know a thing or two about keepers considering he is Aston Villa and Argentina’s number one, says Mendy has continued to impress him during his second year at Stamford Bridge:
“He’s having clean sheets for fun. He’s winning everything. He’s having a wonderful season again. I like his story… the fact he is winning everything now, hard works pays off.”
You only have to look at Mendy’s performance in the Carabao Cup final to see that the Senegalese international is very much at his peak at the moment. That reaction save from Sadio Mane, in particular, is not something you would see from any other goalkeeper.
While the likes of Manchester City’s Ederson, Liverpool’s Alisson and Manchester United’s David De Gea all have their strengths, they haven’t shown the consistency that Mendy possesses, especially over the last eighteen months.
The 29-year-old deserves all the praise he receives and Martinez’s comments show other top keepers rate him very highly too.
