Juventus could well make a counter proposal after turning down an offer from Chelsea for Matthijs de Ligt, according to Calciomercatoweb.it.

The Italian website claims that the Blues tabled a €60m (£51m) bid plus Timo Werner for the Dutch international as they target a potential alternative to Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.

However, Juve see de Ligt as “non-transferable” and they are thought to be considering a “provocative” counter offer where they would ask for Jorginho plus €30m (£26m) instead, knowing full well that the suggestion would be rejected out of hand.

It must be said that Calciomercatoweb are not the most reliable of sources so take this report with a large pinch of salt. A move for Kounde does appear to have stalled but going after de Ligt does seem pretty unlikely, especially with the figures being proposed.

There is no doubt, however, that Chelsea are very keen to sign a new centre-back before the transfer window closes.
