Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva had to be substituted early in the second half during the Blues’ 3-1 win over Aston Villa last night.
Manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed after the game that the Brazilian had sustained a hamstring injury, but he is hopeful that it isn’t a serious one.
N’Golo Kante has picked up a recurrence of a knee problem he originally suffered in a 4-0 victory over Juventus last month. Neither the Frenchman nor Silva are expected to feature versus Brighton on Wednesday.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek remains sidelined with an ankle injury. The midfielder has missed the last two matches versus Wolves and Villa so he is a doubt for the game at Stamford Bridge.
Ben Chilwell is said to be closing in on a return from a knee ligament injury but he is not expected to be back in action until the middle of next month.
Two players are still recovering from the virus. Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have been out for a while so we shall see if they are available for the Brighton game.
