Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Mason Mount did suffer ankle ligament damage in the 2-1 win over Palmeiras yesterday evening.

The midfielder was replaced midway through the first half of the Club World Cup final, and he was pictured leaving the stadium in crutches, suggesting he could be out for a while.

Reece James did travel with the squad to Abu Dhabi but he did not take part in either game against Al-Hilal or Palmeiras. The wingback is still in the final stages of his rehab from a serious hamstring injury, but there is some confidence that he will be back in full training before the match against Crystal Palace next weekend.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was not included in the travelling party for the trip out to the UAE. The midfielder had to sit out the victory over Plymouth Argyle with a knock and there is no estimate on when he’ll return to action. Ben Chilwell, meanwhile, will be out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
