Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has not ruled out a possible move for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland next year.

The Blues boss has revealed that the London club tried their best to sign the Norwegian international last summer, but the finances of the deal turned out to be “unrealistic”.

Romelu Lukaku was subsequently signed from Inter Milan for a club-record £97.5m instead, but when asked if Haaland was still on the agenda, even after the Belgian international’s arrival, Tuchel replied:

“You mean two at the top [with] Lukaku and Haaland? We can talk about it (laughs)… I don’t think we’ve been really serious about it yet, but let’s see what will happen in the next few weeks.”

Haaland will be available for €75m (£63m) at the end of the season due to a release clause in his contract and, for that price, Chelsea would certainly be prepared to do business, along with a number of teams, including Manchester City and Manchester United.

As we have seen already this season, Tuchel is not averse to playing two forwards up top, having partnered Lukaku with Timo Werner, but going after Haaland would be a very surprising decision, considering they have invested heavily in that area very recently.
