Gary Lineker was quick to highlight Thiago Silva’s performance after Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup last night.
The Brazilian was one of the best players on the pitch, and Lineker marveled at the centre-back‘s ability to play at the highest level despite being in his late 30s:
“Thiago Silva was given Man of the Match, he makes the game look so easy. The way he plays, he could play until he’s 58!”
Silva may not be able to play to 58 but it certainly looks like he could emulate another great defender in Paolo Maldini when it comes to playing in a top European league at the age of 40.
The centre-half has shown no signs of slowing down, and the fact that he was so motivated for a game against a Championship team in a domestic cup competition shows you the type of man he is.
Silva never lets his standards drop, no matter who the opposition is, and that inner drive is undoubtedly one of the key reasons why he is still able to play to the level we have seen from him this campaign.
