Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes Reeces James has the ability to play as a striker after seeing him open the scoring for Chelsea against Burnley yesterday.

The fullback twisted and turned before arrowing a shot in the bottom left-hand corner of Nick Pope’s goal at the start of the second half, leading Merson to say:

“What a goal by Reece James. This lad could play centre-forward… It’s a phenomenal finish, so much composure.”

James has only just returned from a hamstring injury and his absence has been keenly felt. He now has an impressive six goals and seven assists in 26 appearances this campaign, and if he had been fit for the last couple of months, you have to wonder what might have been in terms of the Blues’ title challenge.

In any case, it is great to see the England international back on the pitch and playing a crucial role in the 4-0 victory at Turf Moor. Fans will be hoping he can continue this sort of form in upcoming matches.
