Michael Owen is expecting Chelsea to record a narrow victory when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s this afternoon.

The Blues are going into the match after back to back home losses but Owen believes that there will be a reaction from Thomas Tuchel’s side against the Saints:

“Thomas Tuchel was far from happy with the performance against Real Madrid. After that defeat to Brentford last week, there’s some pressure on this side now. I think we’ll see a response from Chelsea here though. I don’t think much will split these two, but I think Chelsea will edge it.”

Owen has gone with a 2-1 win for Chelsea, which is a reasonable prediction when you take into account that Southampton haven’t exactly been in good form in recent weeks either.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have picked up only one point from their last four games, ending a run of three league defeats with a hard-earned draw against Leeds last weekend.

Chelsea haven’t actually lost an away game in any competition since the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City back in mid-January so they will be keen to keep up that good record. After heavy defeats to Brentford and Real Madrid, getting back to winning ways will be very important.
