Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez has shut down speculation about a move away from the Serie A club this summer.
Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old this week, while both Arsenal and Tottenham have been linked with the player over the last twelve months. However, in an interview after Argentina’s game against Italy yesterday, Martinez made it known that he doesn’t want to move teams:
“My plan is clear: I really want to stay at Inter next season. I’ve not received communications from the club as of today, I want to continue at Inter next season.”
Usually, this sort of statement would put an end to any transfer rumours, but Inter’s financial situation means that they could be forced to sell Martinez in the coming months, even if he isn’t interested in leaving.
While it could be argued that Martinez’s remarks should lead to Chelsea ending their pursuit, as he clearly has no interest in a move, players can have a change of heart. It may not be a great example to use, considering his poor performances, but Romelu Lukaku also made similar comments before making the switch to Stamford Bridge last year.
