Despite being given a runout in his favoured position against Southampton last weekend, the jury is very much still out on Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The 20-year-old was by no means poor on Saturday, having an assist for a Timo Werner goal chalked off by VAR, but it wasn’t the eye-catching performance that some had been hoping for.
While a few supporters on Twitter are calling for patience with Hudson-Odoi, others are worried about his development and there are doubts over whether he’ll be given more opportunities by manager Thomas Tuchel:
He is not good enough to play for chelsea

Still young have to improve and learning from his weakness

Yeah. Why isn’t he getting more goals then his other wingers when he’s on the bench or a wingback.

He needs to have that fighting spirit in him when giving the chance to start.
When Barkley came in against Aston Villa, juventus and Southampton, we saw his desire to play for CFC..
He should learn from Ruben
Gallagher would have taken his chances if given the same opportunity.— @chrysanthy (@Oluwase97239917) October 4, 2021
Is he gonna be patient to stay at Chelsea and fight for his position or wait for his time??

At 20, Hudson-Odoi does have a lot of time on his side, but he needs to start delivering on his potential at some point. Tuchel is not a coach who hands out starts to players for free so the winger has to play consistently well if he is going to feature more regularly.
Some feel a loan spell would have been better for Hudson-Odoi, in order to aid his progress, but Tuchel wanted to keep him around for a reason so, hopefully, he can build on the start he made against the Saints.
