Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is expecting Chelsea to secure a comfortable victory when they take on Brentford at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues’ opponents are eight points above the dropzone with eight games remaining and Merson thinks the Bees may not be banking on getting any points from tomorrow’s match:
“Brentford gotta pick their games between now and the end of the season. They are already safe from the drop in my opinion, but they still need a few more points to be absolutely sure they don’t get dragged into a relegation scrap in the coming weeks… I think Chelsea will win this game quite comfortably to cement third place in the Premier League.”
Merson has gone with a 3-0 win to Chelsea, which is a pretty reasonable prediction. Thomas Frank’s side haven’t exactly been strong on the road this season, having picked up only three wins from 15 matches.
Saying that, though, their last three games away from home have consisted of two narrow defeats to Leicester and Arsenal, as well as a victory against Norwich.
With those results in mind, it may not be as straightforward as Merson is assuming. The Blues may have to be patient to break Brentford down, but you’d still back them to come out on top on their own turf.
