Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is expecting Chelsea to progress to the final of the FA Cup with a comfortable victory against Crystal Palace this evening.
After a great performance in Madrid during the week, Merson believes Thomas Tuchel’s side will carry on in the same vein when they face the Eagles at Wembley:
“Chelsea were absolutely outstanding against Real Madrid the other night. Timo Werner could’ve scored five goals in the first half against Southampton, but he still has a long way to go at the club. He’s scoring great goals at the moment and could play a part against Crystal Palace. Werner, Havertz, and Mason Mount are Chelsea’s best front three at the moment. With Conor Gallagher unavailable for Crystal Palace, I see nothing but a Chelsea win here.”
Merson has gone with a 3-0 win to the Blues, which is a slightly surprising scoreline, considering we know Palace are a very good team defensively.
While Chelsea have been free-flowing in attack over the past two matches against Southampton and Real, that hasn’t been the case all season, and they could still struggle to break down Patrick Vieira’s team.
If they do make an early breakthrough, though, then there is a much greater likelihood of it being a pretty straightforward game for Tuchel’s men, but cup semi-finals are hard to predict, so we shall see how things turn out.
