Chelsea are one of the clubs interested in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to Sport.
The Catalan publication follows up on comments made by the player’s father John de Jong who said that “the five best” European teams had recently enquired about the Dutchman’s availability.
It is believed that the Blues, along with Manchester United, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are all keen on snapping up de Jong.
Barca signed the Netherlands international from Ajax for £67.5m two and a half years ago but the La Liga side are struggling financially and there is a possibility that he could be offloaded.
Sport do, however, claim that de Jong is still in manager Xavi’s plans and it is unlikely that a move away from the Camp Nou is imminent.
Chelsea could certainly do with adding another option in the middle of the park, considering the poor form of loan signing Saul Niguez, but it doesn’t seem like de Jong will be a target for the January transfer window.
