Chelsea did make a move for Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos in the summer, according to Goal‘s Blues correspondent Nizaar Kinsella.
Reports in France had suggested that Thomas Tuchel’s side failed in an attempt to persuade the Brazilian into moving to Stamford Bridge and Kinsella says those stories are accurate:
It’s true that Chelsea tried for Marquinhos this summer. https://t.co/4Uz46Ahr7U

Supporters on Twitter had a mixed reaction to Chelsea’s interest in Marquinhos. Some believe he would have been a very good addition to the squad, while others questioned whether he was actually needed:
Shame we weren’t successful. Might need to try again if rudiger doesn’t sign up

I assume marquinhos was impossible so kounde next option

Was probably a 1 minute conversation which consisted of psg saying they don’t want to sell and us moving our focus to kuonde

I respect it. I’d be disappointed if we didn’t try. Marquinhos is world class

It does seem as though Tuchel is having a big say on transfer targets, which is usually not how things work at the London club. Marquinhos is a former player of his at PSG and it appears he was keen to be reunited with him.
After their attempts failed, it looks as though the Blues moved on to Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, who is also a player Tuchel is a huge fan of after seeing him play for Bordeaux earlier in his career.
