Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso will not be allowed to join Barcelona as manager Thomas Tuchel is keen to keep hold of the Spaniard, according to reports in the Catalan media.
Barca are said to be interested in snapping up the 30-year-old as they look to replace their backup left-back Junior Firpo, who is expected to join Leeds United.
However, Tuchel wants to retain Alonso’s services due to the defender’s versatility and ability to play at wingback. Fans on Twitter are surprised by the story with many choosing not to believe the reports:
That is non sense he should allow him go

Tuchel is funny. Alonso can’t run, not strong, can’t carry ball beyond a single opponent player, insecure and gives only sideway or back passes like Jorginho, uncountable errors leading to goals like Jorginho, but Tuchel wants to keep him? Well, what do I know about football?

Considering there have been numerous stories in Italy over the last week that suggest Chelsea were prepared to offer Alonso as part of a deal to sign Inter Milan’s Achraf Hakimi, this latest claim doesn’t make a lot of sense.
It is not a surprise that Tuchel would be keen on keeping a specialist left wingback but Alonso isn’t exactly getting any younger and offloading him now for a decent fee, considering he isn’t a regular starter, would be the most sensible decision.
