Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf believes the Blues should withdraw their interest in Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

Trevoh Chalobah has had an excellent start to the season, with his displays against Villarreal and Crystal Palace earning plaudits from fans and pundits alike, and Leboeuf thinks manager Thomas Tuchel should keep faith with the 22-year-old:

“What’s the point? Kounde is a fantastic player but you cannot make everyone happy so what’s the point having Chalobah, Zouma, Christensen, Rudiger, Thiago when most of them will be on the bench? You have to make choices, you have two places for five or six players, it’s too many. If Chalobah keeps playing like this, they don’t need Kounde.”

It is believed that Kurt Zouma would need to be sold before Chelsea make an attempt to sign Kounde anyway, so perhaps there could be room in the squad for both the Frenchman and Chalobah.

However, reports in the English media suggest that the former England Under 21 international could still be loaned out before the end of the transfer window, despite his performances in the first two games this campaign.

It does seem as though Kounde is a key target for Tuchel, and it doesn’t appear Chalobah’s form will have any bearing on the club’s decision to sign the France international if they can come up with the €70m (£60m) required to snap him up.
