Chelsea were prepared to offer €100m (£85m) for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.
The German reporter, who is hit and miss when it comes to accuracy, claims that the Blues’ approach was knocked back by Juve, who are not willing to discuss selling the Italian international:
TRUE ✅ @ChelseaFC has asked @juventusfc for a transfer of @federicochiesa. offered basis for negotiation: 100 mio €. Juventus has declined talks

Unsurprisingly this story has got many supporters talking on Twitter, with many dismissing Falk’s report as incorrect:
Wow if this happens it’s great

100m for a position where we have like 400 quality players already lmao surely this is a smokescreen

NOT TRUE ❌

I believe this is to entice Dortmund to agree a lower fee by showing willingness to spend in the region of 100m – 120m and that there are other players we can spend this kind of money on. That would create a fear in Dortmund that someone else might get that money instead of them.

That’s surely bs

It wouldn’t make any sense if Chelsea were prepared to pay that much for Chiesa. The Blues already have a wealth of talent in wide areas, including the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
On top of that, it is thought that the London club’s transfer budget will be devoted to signing Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who is valued at around €175m (£150m). It seems pretty far-fetched that owner Roman Abramovich would be willing to spend £208m on the pair.
