Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips would prefer to join Liverpool over Manchester United if the two Premier League clubs fight it out over the England international’s signature next summer, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper claims Jurgen Klopp’s side are “keeping close tabs” on the 25-year-old, who is valued at around £60m by his club.

United are said to be lining up their own move for Phillips as they bid to reinforce their options in the middle of the park, but the player is hesitant about a switch to Old Trafford.

The midfielder was brought up in Leeds and is not particularly keen on moving to the Whites’ fiercest rivals, especially if it impacts his family who all still live in the Yorkshire city.

Leeds would like to tie down Phillips to a new contract but his future at Elland Road depends on Marcelo Bielsa. There are reports that the Argentinian manager will leave at the end of the season and, if that happens, Phillips could follow him out of the door.
