Liverpool are considering a move for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez, according to Niccolo Ceccarini.
The Italian journalist says that the Serie A champions would only sell the Argentinian international if they receive a high enough bid, while Liverpool would probably only make an approach if they lose Mo Salah:
“As for Lautaro, the club’s (Inter’s) position is very clear. The Argentine striker remains central and fundamental in the Nerazzurri project, but in the face of a big offer, Inter will still make a reflection. We have to understand if a big European name will come forward concretely. Liverpool is a possibility, especially if Salah should leave at the end of this season.”
With reports suggesting that Salah is closing in on renewing his contract with the Reds, it does seem as though an offer for Martinez is unlikely at this stage.
It is believed that Inter would demand around €70m (£59m) for the 24-year-old, and there would probably be competition from other Premier League teams if he is made available by Inter.
Both Arsenal and Tottenham have been heavily linked with Martinez since last year but you would have to think that Liverpool would be his preferred destination if it was a straight choice between the three clubs. It remains to be seen, though, whether the Argentine will be moving this summer.
