Adam Lallana has pledged to help out his former club Liverpool in the Premier League title race, when his Brighton & Hove Albion side take on Manchester City on Wednesday.

The Seagulls will head to the Etihad Stadium looking to win their third successive league game after beating North London duo Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the capital.

Lallana, who spent six years at Liverpool before moving to the Amex Stadium in 2020, believes the title race is “wide open” but the midfielder hopes he and his Brighton teammates can cause an upset in midweek, which could see City slip to second place if Jurgen Klopp‘s side avoid defeat against Manchester United on Tuesday.

“[The title race is] wide open. It’s a great year in the Premier League,” the 33-year-old told the Sussex Express.

“There’s tough teams week in week out. We are one of them [and have caused] upsets this year against big teams. Hopefully we can get one more on Wednesday night against City for my old team.”

The 34-cap England international added: “It’s very rare you get the opportunity to play against the very best in sport, so while it’s an incredible challenge it’s also exciting. We’ll go there and do our best.”

Lallana, who won the Premier League title and Champions League during his time at Anfield, has made 55 appearances for Brighton in all competitions, scoring just once and providing two assists.
