Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita won’t sign a contract extension unless he is given more game time by manager Jurgen Klopp, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.

The reporter, who is rather inconsistent when it comes to reliability, says that initial talks over a new deal have reached an impasse as Keita is keen to have a more important role in the team:

“It is true that there was an initial discussion with his management; of course, they would like to extend the contract with Keita, but he wants to play for them. If he doesn’t join the team soon, there won’t be any further progress in extending his contract. He can look at his contract, which runs until 2023 and is in no hurry to extend it, so there has to be some sporting arguments to get him to sign.”

To be perfectly frank, Keita should really focus on staying fit for more than a month at a time before demanding to be selected every week. It is true that he has been available since the start of this season but that has not been typical of his three-year spell at Anfield.

The Guinean international has been in and out of the starting lineup this campaign, with Klopp keen on rotating his players as much as possible, and if the midfielder is unhappy with that arrangement, he may have to look elsewhere for regular game time.
