Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler believes his former club should consider signing Tottenham forward Harry Kane during the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old will have two years remaining on his contract at the end of the season and there has been more speculation that he will finally leave Spurs, with Manchester United believed to be targeting his signature. However, Fowler says that Jurgen Klopp’s side should also consider going after Kane, who could be a suitable replacement for Roberto Firmino:

“United will be in, for sure, and this is a bit left-field, but I’ve said before that Liverpool could do worse than go for him, because he’s got that ability to drop deep like Firmino, and he can guarantee goals,”

First things first. Kane is only eighteen months younger than Firmino so it’s very unlikely that the Reds would replace the Brazilian with someone who is a similar age.

Secondly, Tottenham are likely to demand in excess of £100m for Kane, which means Liverpool would have to break their transfer record. While the England captain is undoubtedly an outstanding footballer, the Merseyside club don’t generally splash the cash on players who are in their late twenties. Fans should not be expecting him to arrive at Anfield this summer, with United or perhaps Manchester City more likely destinations.
