Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville claims that Liverpool may have the best starting eleven in the Premier League.

Despite Manchester City being champions, and the hype surrounding Manchester United and Chelsea following their summer transfer business, Neville believes Liverpool can arguably still field the strongest lineup out of the four:

“That XI could be the best XI in the league, but I think where Liverpool might struggle is all the games you have to play, Champions League is coming up this week, they’ve got AC Milan on Wednesday huge games. I’ve been wrong about Liverpool in the past about the league and the Champions League and they’ve proved me massively wrong – I just feel like other teams have massive strength in depth but Liverpool’s starting XI is outstanding, a brilliant, brilliant team.”

If we go position by position, you can definitely see where Neville is coming from. Alisson Becker is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world, while both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson have demonstrated their qualities as fullbacks over the past few seasons.

In the centre of defence, Virgil van Dijk looks to be back to his imperious best already, while Joel Matip has started the campaign in fine form. The Cameroonian’s ability has never been in question but his tendency to pick up injuries has always hampered him.

Midfield may be seen as weaker by some but you’d have to say that Fabinho is up there among the best holding midfielders in the world, while Thiago and Jordan Henderson have won numerous trophies between them.

Up front, they have world-class players in Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, while you could pick either Roberto Firmino or Diogo Jota as the main forward.
