Anthony Taylor will be the referee and Chris Kavanagh is on VAR duty for Liverpool’s game against Chelsea on Saturday evening.

The Manchester-born Taylor has never been particularly popular on Merseyside, with the official having refereed 42 matches involving the Reds over the last decade, including nine draws and eight defeats.

Supporters on Twitter were not particularly happy at the appointment and are worried about how he will officiate the game at the weekend:

To be fair to Taylor, the last Liverpool match he refereed was the 4-2 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford back in May.

It must be said, however, that Jurgen Klopp’s side did lose against Chelsea the last time Taylor was on the pitch, with Olivier Giroud netting the only goal in a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge three years ago.

Whoever the officials are, though, it won’t distract the Reds from their goal of getting the three points against one of their main title rivals.
