Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright is now backing Liverpool to win the Premier League title after the Reds’ 2-0 win over the Gunners last night.

The BBC pundit originally predicted that Chelsea would be crowned champions at the beginning of the campaign, before then changing his opinion to Manchester City when Pep Guardiola’s side went 14 points clear in January. However, with Liverpool now having closed the gap to just one point, Wright has changed his view once again. As well as singling out Roberto Firmino for praise after his goal at the Emirates yesterday evening, he also made a claim about Liverpool’s title chances.

Back in January, Wright made a point that he couldn’t see Liverpool clawing back the huge lead that City had built, stating that the Reds would have to win every game:

“You look at City now. They can carry on doing what they are doing. Liverpool have to win every game. Even if City lose, Liverpool cannot go into any game now and not win it. It’s very difficult to say that it’s over because you know what the Premier League can do. We [Arsenal] chased down Man United that time, but I don’t think anyone is going to be able to chase them down. That’s not going to happen. They’ve done it. I think they have done it.”

The situation has changed a lot since then, but Wright is right about one thing, Liverpool may still need to win every match to clinch the title, including when they go to the Etihad next month.
