Liverpool are reluctant to break their wage structure in order to accommodate Mo Salah, according to The Athletic‘s James Pearce.

The Reds’ owners Fenway Sports Group don’t want a sizeable gap emerging between Salah and the rest of the squad in terms of salary, but fans on Twitter insist that the club must break the bank to keep the Egyptian international:

After Salah’s quite remarkable goal in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City, it isn’t surprising that supporters are so keen to get the 29-year-old tied down to a new deal.

However, FSG have never been ones for making decisions on instinct and, while it appears that both sides are very keen to get the Egyptian’s contract sorted out, there could still be a long way to go in negotiations.

Salah does have 21 months remaining on his current deal so Liverpool do have time to find a compromise but many are hoping an agreement can be reached soon.
