Ex-Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson said he would be very excited if Jude Bellingham ended up joining the Reds
The former defender has previously backed the teenager to make the switch to Anfield, ahead of Premier League rivals such as Manchester United and Manchester City and Chelsea. He now also claims that Liverpool would be a perfect club for the player:
“He will make the right decision when he’s ready and if he rocked up at Liverpool then wow! The kid’s unbelievable and I think he will suit that team down to the ground… This kid has a clear mind on him He made a really ballsy decision to go to Germany when he was so young and decided to leave his comfort zone to prove what he can do.”
“For me, it was genius. I don’t think he’s going to rush into anything as he could have probably signed for Manchester United or Liverpool before he went to Borussia Dortmund. To turn away clubs like that and head to Germany in the way he did was gold dust.”
Respected journalists have confirmed that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Bellingham, so Johnson isn’t merely speculating on their interest, but it would still be a very difficult transfer to complete.
The teenager’s asking price is reportedly close to £90m, which would be a club-record transfer for the Reds. Even so, the midfielder’s undoubted potential means he will be someone that the club would seriously consider going after if he is made available for transfer in the future. It remains to be seen, though, whether a deal could be done next summer.
