Liverpool are interested in signing Colon attacking midfielder Facundo Farias, his agent has revealed.
The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with Boca Juniors and River Plate in recent months, but his representative, Martin Sendoa, claims that while he’d be open to the player moving to Boca, Liverpool are also involved:
“If Boca comes to buy him and it suits him for the future of Facu and Colon, we will see. But now I’m waiting for a video call from Liverpool. I have to talk to them because they want to buy him.”
Farias is undoubtedly a very talented young player but it would be a big leap for the teenager to make the switch to England, having only made 48 senior appearances for Colon.
There are also question marks over whether the Argentinian youth international would qualify for a work permit. Brexit rules have made things easier when it comes to signing players from South America but he may not still qualify.
Farias’s agent could simply be bluffing about Liverpool’s interest, in order to get a better deal for his player. The forward has a $10m release clause which Colon want paid in full but, so far, the likes of Boca have not come close to meeting their demands.
