Liverpool look set to win the race for Celtic winger Ben Doak, according to The Athletic journalist James Pearce.
The 16-year-old had also been attracting interest from Chelsea and a number of other Premier League clubs but Pearce claims the Reds are now “closing in” on the player’s signature.
Doak has already been handed his senior debut by Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou against Dundee United back in January, while he got another appearance versus rivals Rangers a few days later.
However, it appears those first-team opportunities haven’t tempted the teenager into staying at Celtic Park. It is believed that the prospect of working under manager Jurgen Klopp proved an important factor in his decision to move to England.
As Doak hasn’t signed a professional contract yet, Liverpool will only have to pay modest compensation in order to bring him to Anfield this summer. It’s unlikely we’ll see him playing for the senior side anytime soon but it looks as though the Reds have snapped up a very talented young player.
