Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is expecting that former Red Luis Suarez will get a warm reception when he returns to Anfield as an Atletico Madrid player tomorrow evening.
The Uruguayan’s last visit to Merseyside was the famous 4-0 win over Barcelona in 2019, and his antics on the night weren’t looked on favourably by Reds supporters. However, when asked whether Suarez will be welcomed back this time, Henderson replied:
“Yeah, I think so, What he did while he was here was outstanding. The fans know that. After the game, maybe, that would be nice to get a nice reception from the crowd.”
Suarez did an interview earlier this week where he reflected positively on his three and a half years at Liverpool, but he did reveal that he was keen on leaving for Arsenal in 2013, a year before joining Barca instead.
While he was undoubtedly one of the most gifted players to put on the Red shirt over the last few decades, it must be said that he never really showed loyalty to the team that helped him breakthrough as a world star. For that reason alone, it will be difficult for some fans at least to affectionately greet his return.
