Ex-Liverpool defender Jose Enrique thinks that Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic would be a “great addition” to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
The American has struggled to nail down a place at Stamford Bridge, mainly due to fitness problems, and while injuries would be a concern, Enrique believes that Pulisic is the sort of player the Reds should be looking to snap up:
“Pulisic is a good player. The only problem with him is injuries, but Klopp knows him very well and he would be a great addition. But I don’t see it happening – Chelsea won’t let one of the best players leave for Liverpool when they’re fighting for the title. But you never know. Chelsea are not a team that sell players, and if they do it’s likely to be somewhere else. Hopefully, I’m wrong because he’s a great player and he would do well for Liverpool.”
As Enrique says himself, it’s hard to imagine Chelsea allowing Pulisic to leave for a direct rival. Klopp is likely to be a fan of the 23-year-old, having seen him come through Borussia Dortmund’s academy when he was still the manager there, but it does seem like an unrealistic signing.
Pulisic cost the Blues £58m back in 2019, and while injuries may have hit his value somewhat, he is still a very talented young player. Combined with his current club’s reluctance to offload him to another English team, it would indicate that Liverpool would have to pay through the nose to get him, even if he was available.
