Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool should not be classed as underdogs when it comes to challenging for the Premier League title.
The Reds boss says that his team has enough quality to be competing for honours on a regular basis, despite the undoubted strengths of other teams:
“We don’t consider ourselves in that way- we want to be in it, but whatever role we have I don’t care. With our quality we should be in and around the top of the table. We don’t have to talk about quality of City and Chelsea. The league has so many strong teams. West Ham, Brighton, Arsenal are better, Man Utd are strong, Leicester…so there’s no game at all you can go and rest. You have to be on top constantly. Best league in the world for sure. It’s really exciting to be a part of.”
It is surprising that Klopp was asked such a question, considering the Reds have won the Champions League and Premier League title in recent years.
Klopp has sometimes played down his team’s chances, stating the Liverpool can’t compete financially with some of the other ‘big six’ clubs, but he has always backed his squad to challenge for titles.
This season will be no different and, while Chelsea seem to be the team to beat at the moment, the Reds are not doing too badly themselves. They head into the match against West Ham on Sunday on a 25 match unbeaten run in all competitions, which stretches back to last season.
