Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would be open to Philippe Coutinho returning to Anfield this summer, as long as the Reds can offload some fringe players, according to reports in the Catalan media.

The Brazilian is expected to be available on loan with the player’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, trying to engineer a move back to the Premier League before the transfer window closes.

Tottenham are said to be very interested in Coutinho as well, but a move to North London is believed to be dependent on Harry Kane’s switch to Manchester City going ahead.

With regards to Liverpool, though, it has been suggested on more than one occasion that Klopp does not want to re-sign Coutinho, but he has already tried once before. After his move to Bayern Munich in 2019, Klopp praised the Brazilian’s quality but said the club couldn’t afford to get him back:

“He’s [a] world-class player, really good transfer for Bayern and the Bundesliga. I thought it’s a good fit for both when I first heard about it. It may sound strange, but we didn’t have enough money to get him. We’d already spent all the money we got for him.”

A lot has happened since then but, if the 29-year-old is available for a relatively low price, a surprise return to Merseyside cannot be completely ruled out.
