Liverpool forward Divock Origi remains a doubt for Thursday’s game against Newcastle at Anfield due to a sore knee.

The Belgian international started and scored in the 2-1 win over AC Milan last week but he missed out on the matchday squad entirely for the victory against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Roberto Firmino was also absent at the weekend, despite the fact that the Brazilian has returned to training following a hamstring injury. The medical staff are being careful with his recovery but he may be ready to take his place on the bench versus the Magpies.

Nathaniel Phillips broke his cheekbone during the win at the San Siro. He could be out for around a month and won’t play for the Reds again this calendar year.

Harvey Elliott has been pictured back training with a ball. The teenager dislocated his ankle in mid-September but he is now expected to return to full fitness within weeks. Curtis Jones remains out of contention as he recovers from a freak eye injury.
