The Athletic‘s Chelsea correspondent Simon Johnson claims that “three of the biggest clubs in England” are “putting plans in place” to sign Mason Mount if he decides to leave the Blues this summer.

Mount is one of the lowest wage earners at Stamford Bridge and, with no contract negotiations underway due to the club’s ownership situation, there is a danger that the 23-year-old could move away from Stamford Bridge:

Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are likely to be the three teams that Johnson is talking about, although he doesn’t mention them by name. With that being said, though, Reds fans on Twitter highly doubt that Mount will be moving to Anfield:

It does feel like one of those stories fed to reporters by agents. It’s probably a signal to Chelsea’s potential new owners that they should look to tie down Mount straight away with a lucrative new deal.

Liverpool are also very unlikely to be in the market for an attacking midfielder anyway, and there would certainly be cheaper options than Mount even if they were.
