Liverpool and Arsenal remain interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.
The Italian publication claims that both Premier League teams have “shown up” in the battle for the 24-year-old, who starred for Italy as they won the European Championships earlier this month.
Barella, who is said to be valued at around the €70m (£60m) mark, is not likely to leave Inter this summer with Gazzetta stating that it would take some “sensational twists” for the player to move clubs.
Instead, it is more likely that the Italian international will be handed a new contract, but there doesn’t appear to be a rush to sit down for talks, despite the interest being shown in the midfielder.
Both Barella and Inter are said to be relaxed about the situation but, were Liverpool to make a formal offer for the player before the summer transfer window closes, that attitude would likely change.
