Liverpool have “started talking” to the representatives of AC Milan attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, according to Calciomercato.com.
The Italian website report that the Reds have yet to make a formal proposal to the Turkish international but they have registered an interest with his agents.
Calhanoglu is out of contract next month and will be available on a free transfer. The 27-year-old has had a decent season with Milan, having scored nine goals and provided 12 assists in 43 appearances, helping the Rossoneri to finish second in the Serie A table.
There is believed to be competition for the playmaker’s signature. Sky Sports Italy reported in April that both Chelsea and Arsenal had submitted contract offers to the player, while Manchester United were heavily linked last summer.
At this stage, a move to the Middle East looks more likely, but Calhanoglu is thought to be keen on staying in Europe so a switch to the Premier League cannot be completely ruled out.
