The representatives of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez are trying to “engineer” a move to Liverpool for their client, according to CaughtOffside.com.
The website reports that a transfer to Manchester United is “now off the table” leaving the Reds as one of the few clubs still in the race for the Spanish international.
Niguez is said to be keen on leaving Atletico, with reports suggesting that he could be available for around €40m (£34m) to €45m (£38m) this summer.
However, CaughOffside claims that Liverpool do “have reservations” about the deal. Despite his agents trying to set up a move for him, the Reds are not convinced that the 26-year-old is that interested in making the switch to Anfield.
Reports in the Spanish media in recent days indicate that Niguez has set his sights on joining Barcelona, while Chelsea have also been mentioned as a potenial suitor. We shall see where the player ends up when the transfer window closes later this month.
