Liverpool are involved in the battle to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, according to AS

The Madrid-based newspaper claims that the Reds are weighing up a move for the Uruguayan international if Mo Salah decides to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Nunez won’t come cheap, though, with Benfica now demanding as much as €130m (£109m) for the player. The high asking price is mainly due to the amount of interest being shown in the 22-year-old.

AS report that Manchester United are currently “in the lead” with new manager Erik ten Hag having made the forward a top target. However, Arsenal, Manchester City, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also in the mix.

Nunez certainly impressed when he faced Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this month, but the reported cost of signing the Uruguayan may put off Jurgen Klopp’s side from stepping up their interest. We shall see who wins the race for his signature.
