Watford winger Ismaila Sarr has no intention of signing a new contract with the Hornets, according to reports in the Spanish media.
The Senegalese international’s current deal expires in 2024 and the news will be of interest to Liverpool. The attacker’s agent, Thierno Seydi, revealed last year that the Reds came close to signing him:
“With Liverpool, a few days ago, we were at the stage of signing the contract that would tie the Reds to Ismaila Sarr. Everything was sorted: the monthly wages and the length of the deal. I’d even asked Sadio Mane to find him an apartment. But, in the end, the English club weren’t able to put the €40m (£35m) on the table to finalise the affair.”
Whether the Merseyside club still hold the same level of interest, it remains to be seen. Sarr has struggled with injuries this season, meaning he has been restricted to 16 appearances.
He has still managed to score five goals, though, and at 24 years of age, he does fit the profile that Liverpool are looking for in potential new signings.
Sarr does favour playing on the right-wing, so he could come under consideration once again if Mo Salah were to leave Anfield. The Egyptian is involved in his own contract dispute with the Reds, with reports suggesting he rejected a new deal back in December. It would not be surprising if Jurgen Klopp’s side are looking around for potential replacements.
