Liverpool have made an enquiry for Atalanta centre-back Cristian Romero, according to reports in the Italian media.
It is believed the Reds were asking for information regarding the Argentinian international’s contract situation, with the player currently on loan from Juventus.
Atalanta do, however, have the option to buy Romero and they could sign him on a permanent basis in order to then sell him on for a profit this summer.
Manchester United are also said to be interested in the 23-year-old and are reportedly prepared to pay €45m (£39m) to sign him from Atalanta, but the Serie A club are demanding around €60m (£52m).
To be honest, it would be a big surprise if Liverpool were interested in Romero, considering they have already snapped up Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig. It could well be the case that they contacted Atalanta before the Frenchman’s transfer was confirmed and that the information is only coming to light now.
