Liverpool are “very interested” in signing Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to Footmercato.net.
The French website says that Chelsea are also “following” the player closely but their ownership situation has forced them to back off in their pursuit.
It means the Reds could have a clear run to snap up Tchouameni, who is reportedly very keen on making the switch to the Premier League.
FootMercato claim that Monaco would be open to selling the France international for around €50m (£42m) with 20% of the profits from the sale going to the player’s previous club Bordeaux.
Liverpool are said to be looking to freshen up their midfield with younger players. James Milner turned 36 in January, while the likes of captain Jordan Henderson and Thiago are not getting any younger either.
Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will also have just a year remaining on their contracts this summer, so Tchouameni could be lined up to replace one of those two players too.
