Manchester United defender Raphael Varane will play no part in the Red Devils’ clash with Liverpool later this month due to injury.

The defender was substituted after just 43 minutes of France’s Nations League final victory over Spain at the weekend and has since been diagnosed with a groin injury.

In an injury update, United confirmed that Varane would be out for “a few weeks”, meaning that he will miss this weekend’s clash with Leicester City as well as further crunch matches with Atalanta BC, Liverpool and potentially Tottenham Hotspur later this month.

The statement read: “Raphael Varane sustained a groin muscle injury in the Nations League final and has commenced rehabilitation at the club. He will be out for a few weeks.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also sweating over the fitnesses of Amad Diallo, Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire for Saturday’s game, but United have supposedly been handed a timely fitness boost with the latter.

Varane has already made seven appearances across all competitions for United this season, playing the full 90 minutes in each of his side’s last five Premier League games.
