Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson is expecting Manchester City to edge out Liverpool in the race for the title this season.
The pundit was one of 20 to be asked by the BBC to judge who will finish in the top four. He placed City at the top, with Liverpool second, Chelsea third, and Manchester United in fourth.
Remarkably, out of all the pundits, not one of them backed the Reds to reclaim top spot this campaign. In fact, the majority had Jurgen Klopp’s side third or fourth.
A lot of that is likely down to the fact that Liverpool have not really spent much in the transfer market this summer and, while that may seem like a reasonable explanation for writing off the team’s chances, it does show that people have short memories.
The same group of players finished the season with 99 points just under 13 months ago, and while they may not hit those heights again, they will be right in the mix.
